Announcing Leaflets!
July 15, 2007 by Keith Robinson
Over the past few weeks we've been working hard on this little project and we're very proud and excited to announce that our Leaflets are ready for prime time!
You're probably wondering what the heck Leaflets are. Well, they're small but useful applications built with your iPhone in mind. They're developed specifically to take advantage of Safari on your iPhone. They're fast—even over EDGE—and they're designed to provide the best possible user experience on your iPhone.
I can't tell you how excited we are about the mobile web right now, and this is just the first of many projects we've got planned. In the future we plan on adding more applications and improving on what we've got now. We're also hoping to bring our Leaflets to other mobile devices. So, stay tuned! We've got many more surprises up our sleeves.
In the meantime, grab our feed. We'll be talking about how our Leaflets work, how they were built, what's going on in the world of iPhone and mobile web development and much more here at our blog.

Nice job guys - simple and clean concept to execution! Looking forward to more industry feedback and adoption.

They really need to bring the iPhone to the rest of the world. I actually need one.
Used iphoney, to have a look, and this is awesome.

Looks great guys, I've really enjoyed using it over the last few weeks. It's a much needed app in the slew of other iphone apps out there. Can't wait to see how you guys continue to extend it.

Nice, but unfortunatly the demo does not work on Windows, using Safari 3.0.2 :-(

This is pretty fantastic! No more tiny Yahoo! Mobile page for my news and it's associated missed-clicks because the links are tiny.
Looking forward to what sort of modules will be added in the future.

I still can't get the Safari beta to work on either of my computers. What is it about the demo that needs Safari 3? Any chance you could post a video instead?

Works fantastically well.
This entire application and site is very well thought out, down to the name and brand. I'm really impressed, especially with the included feed reader (although I'm not dropping Google Reader just yet).
Congrats!

When the iPhone web apps started rolling in, I wanted to do exactly what Leaflets is, so I'm glad you guys took up the project and made it happen. It's awesome to have one place to go to access all of these useful apps, and to be able to rate them right there in my iPhone. Nice work Blue Flavor peeps!

Very nice set of apps.
How are the authentications passed to Flickr? What assurance do I have that this system can't harvest passwords?
July 16, 2007 by Marc
@Jason: Leafetls uses a lot of Safari 3-only CSS3 bits. The experience on Safari 2 and other browsers is less-than-ideal, thus the browser-sniffing for the demo. A video is a good idea. Might be tricky, though, since the iPhone has no video out (and iPhoney -- while useful -- is a really lousy approximation of the iPhone interface). I'll see what we can do.
July 16, 2007 by Jeff Croft
@Marc: Currently, you don't have to send any passwords to Flickr, del.icio.us or Upcoming, so you're completely safe. In the near future, we'll switch over to the authentication process that Flickr and Upcoming suggest, which is extremely safe (it also requires no passwords to be shown to us or stored by us).
Don't worry--we definitely have data safety in mind. We don't want your passwords, even if you want to give them to us! =)

hiya guys.. very nice work here, thank you.
one question, i tried to set up a user account but got no feedback on success or failure and no email came my way confirming the creation of the account.
is it possible to sign up for an account at this time and what benefits does having one bring?
thanks again!

Hey guys, very cool.
In thinking about all of these iPhone specific apps that are popping up, the devil's advocate in me thinks about the following:
At some level, don't iPhone specific web apps go against the whole idea that websites should be platform/device independent? By designing for a specific device, a lot of others get left out. What happens when iPhone gets a resolution upgrade, and then there are people running around with both old and new iPhones? What happens when, I don't know, Samsung comes out with a great mobile device that tons of people buy and we're compelled to support -- do we then start developing a third app version for the Samsung?
To me, the freshness/utility/excitement factors of the iPhone make it easy to want to make apps for it, and we will probably be doing the same over at our shop soon. Part of me just wonders, though, if we're forgetting one of the greatest things about the web -- device independence -- in doing so.
(Note: it just occurs to me that maybe these aren't really being thought of as websites at all, but rather as iPhone applications which just happen to run through the web browser? In that frame of reference, it's much less strange to be developing an application for a specific platform.)
What do you guys think?
July 16, 2007 by Clay Preheim
@terry: As long as there was no error (and you see the "Sign out" option in the bottom-right of the Leaflets home screen), you've signed up successfully. But you're right, it should give you some better feedback. Thanks for bringing that to our attention.
Creating a free Leaflets account allows you to customize your preferences and to link up your Flickr, Upcoming and del.icio.us leaflets.

@terry: Sure, please send the email you used to sign up to me at garrett at blueflavor dot com and I'll help you out. Sorry you're having trouble!

Kudos on a cool set of apps. Blue Flavor continues to be way out in front.

This is fantastic. Spot on.

Extremely cool and useful. If I could set a homepage in iSafari, this would be it.
July 16, 2007 by Joost Schuur
Very cool, its made surfing on the edge network browsing a lot more fun. Any chance for getting internet radio? Kexp.org on my iphone would make my day.
July 16, 2007 by Rohit
Would love to see an OPML import for the feeds (which I'd do from my desktop)!
Great interface thus far!

When I look at the utility of this service, it reminds me of when I got my first color Handspring Visor with the Omnisky Modem and used AvantGo over the air...only this is way way more sophisticated and clean. I'm looking forward to seeing it evolve and increase the power of the iPhone where ATT/Apple are leaving off.
Thank you,
Kevin K.

Great stuff! Looks like there's a problem with Amazon searches, though. Search "Harry Potter" and you can browse the list but you can't restrict it to DVDs, for example. The button is not functional. Also, the Search box appears at the top left of the screen under the menu path... weird layout bug. I'm sure there's a right place to post this feedback so I will investigate. Congrats!

This looks very promising for the mobile browsing. Best of Luck.

I need an expense report app like expense log.net. I've contacted them and they said maybe they will be coming up with an app. I want to be able to input my expenses on my phone and have them sync to the web.
I like the leaflets because these are what some want to be able to do cool things on their personal phone.
Great job.

Great job guys, keep up the good work! How about some Ms. Pacman action?
July 17, 2007 by Jake Fields
This looks great! I love it.
It would be nice, if I can add my other favorite apps and use getleaflets.com as a launcher.
Of course, if you also want to display some nice icons for them, you have to make up a standardized way of doing it such as:
http://theURLforiPhoneApps.com/icon60.gif
or something.
I think your app has the power to spread a new standard ;-)

Great job! Would be great to add sports (live) scores as u guys extend it.

Hey folks,
Fantastic job!
Leaflets, and PocketTweets, are the only two worthy of the iPhone.
Cheers, Joannou.

very nice job!!!!
July 18, 2007 by Brian T.
Slick interface with all the information I've been looking for in one place! Thanks and keep up the great work.
July 19, 2007 by Jeffwschneider
Excellent job! Works fantastic. One suggestion: for news sites (e.g. NY Times and Newsvine), it would be great to have the sections (e.g. Sports, Politics, Technology) on top rather than on the side. Each headline and story would then have more horizontal space and thus be more readable. You can see this problem in Newsvine with iPhone in vertical mode - the headlines are almost unreadable because so many words are cut off.
July 19, 2007 by Jay Haynes
How did you guys get away with removing ads on nytimes.com, for example? Love your implementation!
July 19, 2007 by Ketan
I found the upper right hand corner button. Works great! Thanks for a great product. Sorry I missed this the first time around. It is a great feature.
